AIA-MBA Joint Committee

Chartered in 1965, the AIA-MBA Joint Committee provides a unique forum for Architects, General Contractors, and Owners to meet and discuss existing conditions of the construction industry. As a result of this forum, a set of guidelines was created to reflect the best practices for procedures involving drawings and specifications, bidding, contract documents and administrative procedures during construction.

Apprentice Information Committee
  • A private, voluntary organization established to publicize and distribute information concerning apprenticeship opportunities in the union construction crafts.
  • Secure, maintain and publicize a current compilation of apprenticeship information and make it available to the general public.
  • Foster cooperation between construction employers, unions, educational organizations and community groups.
  • Promote equal opportunity in construction apprenticeship and in allied training programs.
  • Assist in recruiting and referring applicants for apprenticeship opportunities.

Cement Masons Labor/Management Committee
  • Provides a forum to discuss making union contractors more competitive.
  • Addresses management concerns voiced during contract negotiations.
  • Improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the Cement Masons Apprenticeship and Training Program.
  • Mutually promotes union construction, while improving and strengthening the working relationship between union and management.

Green Builders Committee

The committee's mission is "to improve our region's construction community by uniting, promoting, and creating a pool of professions that facility healthy, sustainable living, while building our region." The committee hosts building tours and an annual MBA Green Builders Symposium in the fall.

Labor Negotiation Steering Committee
  • To ensure that the MBA's labor relations activities are carried out in accordance with the By-Laws of the Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc.
  • Responsible for negotiation of labor agreements.
  • Develop policies governing the MBA's relationship with unions representing the members' employees.
  • Monitor labor negotiations of local, regional and national groups having a direct or indirect effect on MBA labor relations.
  • Monitor the availability of the construction industry workforce.
  • Represent the MBA in its relations with international unions, national associations, construction user groups, and governmental entities regarding construction labor relations issues.

Representatives from all MBA Regular Member firms contribute to labor negotiations on an as-needed basis.

Legislative Committee
  • Monitor local, state, and federal legislation affecting the construction industry, taking action when necessary.
  • Utilize influence of the General Contractors Association of PA (GCAP) regarding state legislation.
  • Capitalize on the collective clout of MBA firms through the Legislative Network when communicating issues to legislators.
  • Visit federal, state and local government representatives to promote a better understanding of construction issues.
  • Actively participate on the Construction Legislative Council.
  • Inform members of National AGC lobbying activities.

  • To expose young professionals in the construction industry to national AGC programs and services.
