Risk Management Committee

  • Provides guidance and support to MBA Staff to ensure that an effective safety program is maintained for Western PA's building industry.
  • Promote safety awareness.
  • Review and comment on proposed safety and health regulations.
  • Review MBA safety publications, training courses and seminars.
  • Promote participation in Safety Statistics Tabulation Program (AGC).
  • Maintain liaison with local, state and federal agencies.
  • Reduce substance abuse through cooperation with enforcement agencies and contractor associations.

Education Committee

  • Provides guidance and support to MBA Staff to ensure that effective education programs are made available to members.
  • Develop a formal degree program in Construction Management and cooperate with the Community College of Allegheny County in presentation of Associate Degree programs for journeyman.

Legislative Committee

  • Monitor local, state and federal legislation affecting the construction industry, taking action when necessary.
  • Utilize influence of the General Contractors Association of PA (GCAP) regarding state legislation.
  • Capitalize on the collective clout of MBA firms through the Legislative Network when communicating issues to legislators.
  • Visit federal, state and local government representatives to promote a better understanding of construction issues.
  • Actively participate on the Construction Legislative Council.
  • Inform members of National AGC lobbying activities.

AIA/MBA Joint Committee

  • Promote communication between architects, contractors and owners in an effort for each to gain a better understanding of the construction process.
  • Provide a forum for contractors, architects and owners.
  • Encourage the industry to inform the Joint Committee of problems which may be discussed and resolved.

MBA Labor Negotiation Steering Committee

  • To ensure that the MBA's labor relations activities are carried out in accordance with the By-Laws of the Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc.
  • Responsible for negotiation of labor agreements.
  • Develop policies governing the MBA's relationship with unions representing the members' employees.
  • Monitor labor negotiations of local, regional and national groups having a direct or indirect effect on MBA labor relations.
  • Monitor the availability of the construction industry workforce.
  • Represent the MBA in its relations with international unions, national associations, construction user groups, and governmental entities regarding construction labor relations issues.

  • A private, voluntary organization established to publicize and distribute information concerning apprenticeship opportunities in the union construction crafts.
