Temporary Light and Power

The Electrical Contractor shall furnish all labor and material necessary for a complete temporary lighting and power system throughout the project except as hereinafter modified.

The Electrical Contractor shall provide these temporary systems within fifteen (15) days after written request by any Contractor requiring the system.

The temporary lighting and power systems shall include the following:

1. Adequate capacity for construction and testing. The following are suggested capacities:

Gross Square Feet Capacity Electrical Distribution System

Up to 50,000 100 KVA 120/240V., l phase, 3 wire or

120/208V., 3 phase, 4 wire

50,000 to 100,000 150 KVA 120/208V., 3 phase, 4 wire

100,000 to 250,000 300 KVA 277/480V., 3 phase, 4 wire and

120/208V., 3 phase, 4 wire

250,000 to 500,000 500 KVA 277/480V., 3 phase, 4 wire and

120/208V., 3 phase, 4 wire

500,000 to 800,000 750 KVA 277/480V., 3 phase, 4 wire and

120/208V., 3 phase, 4 wire

 

2. Aerial service including cables, poles, guys, insulators, supports, lightning arrestors and pole hardware.

3. Metering, main fused disconnect switch, current limiting fuses, grounding, panelboards and feeder circuits.

4. Lightning system, including branch wiring and 100 watt lamps and sockets, located as follows:

A. For corridors - lights on 30 foot centers.

B. For spaces less than 300 square feet - one lamp per space.

C. For other spaces - one lamp for each 300 square feet of area, and one for each remaining fraction of 300 square feet.

5. Power system, including branch wiring (separate from lighting) with ground wire and grounding type 120 volt 20 ampere ground type duplex convenience outlets, located as follows:

A. For corridors - outlets on 50 foot centers.

B. For other spaces - outlets shall be located so that the addition of a 50 foot extension cord will extend power to any area within the space.

C. Wire maximum of six outlets per 20 ampere circuit.

6. Fifty amperes, single phase, 3 wire, 120/240 or 120/208 volts circuit to construction trailers (specify quantity) and offices for lighting and air conditioning.

7. Refer to the "Temporary Heat" section of the Yellow Book for additional items.

8. Will be responsible for continuity testing per the latest OSHA Standards.

Each Prime Contractor shall:

1. Bear the cost for providing power to their equipment which cannot be served from the systems provided herein.

2. Provide their own extension cords.

3. Bear the cost for any additional lighting they may require for night work such as extended concrete pours, and reimburse the Electrical Contractor for any standby personnel per the current labor Contract.

4. Maintain all of their own equipment.

5. Repair and refinish their own work which may have been damaged by removal of temporary system facilities.

When permanent service becomes available, the Electrical Contractor shall connect the temporary system to the permanent service.

The Electrical Contractor shall maintain the temporary system in perfect working order throughout the period of construction. He shall replace burned-out and missing lamps.

The location of main temporary service and distribution equipment shall be coordinated with affected Prime Contractors on the project.

The temporary systems installation shall be in accordance with requirements of the Local Building Codes and local regulations.

The Owner shall pay energy costs incurred during the period of construction and testing of systems and equipment. Refer to the "Temporary Heat" section of the Yellow Book for exceptions.

The Electrical Contractor shall make the necessary adjustments to the temporary sytems to eliminate interferences which occur as construction progresses.

At the completion of the construction and test period, the Electrical Contractor shall remove all temporary system facilities from the site and replace lamps, ballasts, etc., which are part of the permanent system.

Any Contractor who fails to carry out his responsibility in supplying temporary light and power as set forth in this contract, shall be held responsible for such failure, and the Owner shall have the right to take such action as he deems proper for the protection and conduct of the work, and shall deduct the cost involved from the amount due the Contractor at fault.
